Hi everyone! The First Sunday of Advent is coming up, so I wanted to share some videos to help you become familiar with parts that may be a little more difficult. Please keep in mind: the purpose of Vespers is prayer – it is okay that we do not sound like a perfectly trained choir. We are simply accepting the breath of life Our Lord gives us through the Holy Spirit, and returning it to Him through the continuous prayer of His Church. The preparation classes that are offered will help you become familiar with the notation and prayer so that it will not be completely foreign, but still be patient with yourself. You will get the hang of it.
So what can you expect for the First Sunday? It will be very similar to the Vespers series we had during Lent, though we will be starting off with the Pater Noster (Our Father) in Latin (rather than switching from English in a later week) and the Marian Antiphon (closing hymn) for the season of Advent is the Alma Redemptoris Mater.
Here are some recordings of the two if you would like to listen a couple of time. Try singing along as you become comfortable. Please feel free to extend an invite or share this page with anyone you think may be interested. I hope to see you on Sunday!
